OUR TEAM - CARING FOR THE ELDERLY

HISTORY

Both partners worked in the UK as Carers themselves after graduating from university with social work and psychology degrees respectively. Having realised that South Africa had a number of nursing agencies, focusing mainly on the physical care of patients rather than the more holistic approach to care, they decided to open a home care agency. The agency would offer their clients a service encompassing all the aspects enabling them to remain comfortably at home.
They started this agency in 1996 at a dining room table with a telephone, some stationery and a car each!
Eventually the partners realised that a secretary was essential (especially for cups of tea) and they now have a carer compliment of 130 and 7 office staff.

  • Diana Kane – Berman (B.A.Psych.Hons) UCT/UNISA
    Di has studied psychology and worked as a medical secretary ,credit controller in the medical field, an admin officer at Groote Schuur Hospital and as a Carer herself in the UK.
    
     

• Director

  • Gill Sharwood (B.Soc.Sci.Social Work Hons. ) Rhodes.
    Gill is a qualified Social Worker. She has worked in the UK as a Carer and as a Social Worker in Port Shepstone (Mbango Home Care) and Pietermaritzburg (PADCA)
    
     

• Care - Office Manager

  • Sian Sydney is in charge of organizing the care for our Clients and coordinating the carers.
    Sian is a qualified life coach, has a diploma in counselling and communications, a certificate in trauma counselling and has completed the TOPS induction course for Carers for the Social Services UK.
    Sian has worked as a care coordinator for Medi Choice in London.
     

  • Karen Leighton assists Sian in the day to day organization of care and is in constant liaison with our after hours department to ensure care is uninterrupted.
    
    Karen also updates all our schedules daily.
    
    
     

• Care - Field Manager

  • Noreen Grispos does our client assessments and follow up home visits. She supervises the Carers in the Clients home, offering guidance and resolving any problems.
    Noreen is qualified as a Registered Nurse, has a certificate in coma communication and is an aromatherapist.
     

• Secretary

  • Glynis Alexander is our cheerful voice on the end of the phone as well as the person who does the office administration.
    
    
    
     

• Financial Manager

  • Helen Ferguson is responsible for the monthly accounts, the payroll and all other financial administration in the business. She has 22 years experience in Financial admin. Helen is also a Qualified Registered Nurse.
    
    
     

• Financial Assistant

  • Debbie Grouwstra is Helen’s able assistant, with 19 years experience in bookkeeping. Debbie works flexitime. She is also a qualified Registered Nurse.
     

• After Hours Call Staff

  • Trish Holgate and Michelle Thompson are in charge of the after hours emergency phone service.
     

  • Trish Holgate is a qualified Social Worker who runs her own practice and does sessional work at the Parent Centre.
     

  • Michelle Thompson also does sessional work at the Parent Centre and works for a NGO called Youth with a Mission.
    She has worked as a carer for 3½ years with a client who had motor neurone disease.
     

• Cape Care Recruitment

  • Deirdre brings with her a background in recruitment, the experience of being a carer in London and general knowledge of the company having being involved as a relief office member for some time.
    
    Deirdre Cargill joins us in managing our new division, CAPE CARE RECRUITMENT. Deirdre brings with her a background in recruitment, the experience of being a carer in London and general knowledge of the company having being involved as a relief office member for some time.
